Bio

April is a landscape oil painter, who works out of her home studio in Southern California. April has always had a fondness for the arts and the way art can communicate emotions. She initially started pursuing the study of art and psychology in college and went on to gain her Master’s degree in Art Therapy and Counseling. After college, she spent several years providing therapy to adults, children and families. However, once she became a mom, her priorities shifted, and she made more time to spend at home enjoying the role of motherhood. She started painting again and found the beauty in California landscapes to be incredibly inspiring. Her rekindled love for painting slowly went from a creative outlet to a pursued passion.

As an Art Therapist by training, she allows the same topics that guided her work in the mental health field to now guide her creative endeavors – mainly that of mindfulness, self-reflection and the act of self-care through the creative process. Soothing colors and light on the horizon are metaphors in her work that represent peace and tranquility. Her landscapes focus on the way light shifts through the sky and the everchanging colors during the golden hour. For April, painting is about being in the present moment, capturing an emotion and finding peace in the beauty of nature. Through her art, she hopes viewers are reminded to take a moment, be present and feel at peace.

Currently, April is balancing the demands of motherhood and artist, as she gave birth to a baby boy at the end of last year. She is focusing on her craft during nap times and prioritizing a select number of shows for 2024.

Statement

When I paint, I get lost in the process - from sketching to premixing my palette, to adding those first juicy oil paint marks. Painting is a direct link to the joy I feel when I’m out in nature, enjoying a sunlit trail or watching the sunset. My paintings are an impression of these moments as I focus on the feelings they evoke, rather than creating a realistic representation.

Thanks for stopping by!

When I’m not painting, I enjoy traveling with my husband and sons. We love exploring National Parks, hiking, visiting little coastal towns and spending time working on our first garden together. While exploring, I’m always gathering inspiration for future work.
